We’re going to take a look at more pro style formations, this time defending 20 personnel. Keeping to the plan we can keep our IMFB 4-2-5 defense in “Miami” or adjust to “Hokie” against 20 personnel. To Hokie or not to Hokie…
We can stay in our base Miami call against 20 personnel depending on what they’re doing. Some teams are running the triple option from it, or a power inside run game, and it’s necessary to keep our linebackers in the box. It really depends on who you trust the most tackling inside the box.
This puts the safety out in coverage situations and making possible switches, something he is probably more comfortable doing, and keeps 7 in the box.
An adjustment we can make vs RPO’s (run pass options) and screen teams is Hokie Robber 4. Our Robber look puts the SLB over the slot, the CB to that side 8 off and inside leverage, and the safety to that side in the apex or at 6 yards splitting the difference between #2 and the EMOL (end man on the line). The MLB and WLB are in 20’s. The DL is in a 5-3-1-5. and normally the strength call would be to the 2 WR’s if stacked like below, but it would be to the FB if it’s a queen set.
The SLB plays the flats taking away bubbles, arrows, 5-outs, and tunnels while the FS takes away verts, slants and posts and the CB picks up wheel routes and verts.
