In honor of #SplitZoneSaturday I’ve decided to contribute my split zone cut-ups and a diagram with animated GIF’s… ENJOY!
Split Zone is a great way to give a Back Side Defensive End (BSDE) fits. You’ve gap-hinged him with your zone lead, you’ve left him unblocked for your zone read, and now you’ll kick him out and cut back under it in split zone. It’s easy to teach because only one player has a different assignment from inside zone read. Your QB can still pull and run inside the kick out, your RPO game is still available… your HB needs to learn how to kick out and your TB needs to learn NOW he can cut back past the center.
