This is part of a series on head coaching roles. Coaching your assistant coaches is an extremely important role as a head coach. Your assistants need to be an extension of you and cannot if you don’t guide them there.
A major role of a head coach is to plan and implement that plan into a reality. This covers practice planning, off-season workouts, philosophy in all three phases of the game, and scheme.
The first job for a head coach is to make sure your program is safe. If you run an unsafe program by neglect, incompetence, or maliciousness (hope that is rare but after Friday Night Tykes…) you aren’t long for this business.
