Retooling Buck Sweep

Prior, we had been running buck sweep the traditional way, down, kick, run inside the kick out. But we’ve increasingly had a harder and harder time finding outside running plays to keep defenses honest. Outside of a pull on inside zone read or a jet sweep (have never had a ton of success with them) I’ve OC’ed an inside run team the past three seasons.

Gap, Scrape, and Option Exchange (Part 1)

As a defensive minded coach who is serving as an offensive coordinator, I have to be aware of the gap and option responsibilities of our opposing defense. When I call a defense I like to switch gap exchange pre-snap, scrape exchange post-snap, and even option exchange against zone read and triple option teams. This is part 1 of a 3 part series.

Running RPO’s vs Man 1

When you run RPO’s and are the less athletic team, a lot of opponents will try to play cover 1 press man against you. This takes away the slants, bubbles, and puts a guy in the window of your pop pass. However, what it does leave is a 6 man box and a 1-high shell.
