My staff at Cornerstone goes over our tackling drills we do for all players. These drills can be used every single day. Here we employ heads-up and hawk tackling. Enjoy a couple of our best drills here for FREE, and the entire video on our Patreon for FREE (for all the guys that say we charge for everything).
The first job for a head coach is to make sure your program is safe. If you run an unsafe program by neglect, incompetence, or maliciousness (hope that is rare but after Friday Night Tykes…) you aren’t long for this business.
Saturday, May 4th was our “hit day” for spring, usually the more important hit day of the two (fall being the other) because of the amount of new blood at a school like ours. This is the time of year when the guys who plays other sports and the 8th graders all want a taste of varsity football.
There are many ways to teach tackling. When I was in Pop Warner, they lined us up 10 yards apart and had us run into each other. We did bull in the ring, oklahomas, and hamburger drills. Had anyone known a damn thing about safety and coaching that’s not how we would’ve had our start.
